Training load - strange calculation

I noticed on 2 recent bike rides pretty big difference between training loads.  Also to mention, on the road ride I had a powermeter but I think that shouldn't affect training load calculation?

1. Road bike ride

Ride time: 1h:36m

Avg HR: 137

Max HR: 166

Exercize load: 135

2. Mountain bike ride

Ride time: 1h:34m

Avg HR: 139

Max HR: 166

Exercize load: 82

  • Hi, if I recall correctly, the FirstBeat Load/EPOC algorithm uses power data if available along with HR, otherwise it's HR only. These algorithms are different and I suspect that the HR-only version likely gives a much more crude result than with power data.

    As well the nature of your road and MTB rides could be very different, resulting in Load accumulating much more slowly on the MTB ride.
