Ridiculous amount of ANT+ disconnects since update

On a 91 mile ride yesterday my Varia 515 dropped it's connection dozens of times, once giving me the "09" code.

It would reconnect almost instantly.

I had less frequent HRM Pro & Garmin Speed Sensor2 drops, only a couple of times.

The radar issues were distracting & annoying.

Any suggestions?

  • try riding without connecting your phone

  • I ride with my phone connected via Bluetooth, but turn Wifi off on the phone.  I also keep Wifi turned off on the 530.  Wifi was causing my Livetrack to disconnect.  I almost never get sensor disconnects, so maybe keeping Wifi off is helping, maybe not.

As an aside, I'm not sure why I need Wifi on the 530.  I never turn it on.  It downloads to the phone via Bluetooth, just don't need it.  When my ride is done I turn my phone Wifi back on.

  • I almost never get sensor disconnects

Try riding with your Bluetooth switched off, I'm not going to guarantee 100% that you'll never get disconnects but I'm convinced you most likely will - based on personal experience, I never see any drop outs when I ride offline, which is what I do all the time. I also don't use WiFi.

  • I'm nearly 100% free of disconnects now, that's my point.  I like having my phone connected via Bluetooth and it isn't a problem.  I just mentioned my success in conjunction with my WiFi being off in case it might help someone else.  I should add that all my sensors are Ant+ connected (HRM2, Speed Sensor, Remote).

  • May have corrected itself today.

Five hour ride, two very brief Varia disconnects/immediate reconnects.

I'd rather not turn off BT, since I use the messaging alerts & LiveTrack.

Wife uses LiveTrack to see when I'm about 10 minutes from home, and has an egg & cheese on an English waiting for me when I get in.

    I'm not giving that up!

  • With 9.73 I had many disconnects. With 9.75 only speed sensor had dropouts. On my todays ride I disabled WiFi on the Edge, kept BT on and used LiveTrack. No disconnect at all. Seems that WiFi is the reason for that issue. I will continue to observe and report.

  • Yes, as I mentioned above, having WiFi turned off on both the Edge and phone has been successful for me.  I don't need WiFi on my phone while I ride, and I never need WiFi on the Edge.  I'm not really sure when I would bother with WiFi on the Edge, I don't see a need for it.  I'm not sure why more people across all the Edge devices haven't at least tried turning off WiFi on both to improve sensor connections.

  • That's interesting.

Ive been experiencing some power dropouts (Favero Assioma Uno) and a fewer HRM dropouts (Polar H10).

It started to occur just recently, i've never had any powerdrops before which made me think the problem was with the PM.

I always leave bluetooth and wifi on, both on my phone and Edge.

I'll try turning wifi off to see what happens.

    Thanks.

  • I also support this suggestion to turn wifi off on both phone and Edge 530. I am having success with this. Live track is still active by Bluetooth connection to phone.

  • Turning phone wifi off has been fairly successful for me.
Also report the issue to Garmin Support. I did that this morning. They don't have any solutions at the moment but they have added me to a list of people with the issue and I should be notified when a solution is found.
