Elevation settings

My 530 seems to find random elevations (on display) to show me, but in reality I (nearly) always set off from the same place therefore the same elevation. The uploaded files don’t seem to have the same problem for some reason.

I know I can go to

  • Select ---> Set Elevation
  • Enter the elevation, and select tick

It’s a pain doing this before every ride.

But does anybody know which file stores/holds the elevation settings or does it perhaps come from the map data held on the device

  • How would Garmin know your barometer is wet?

    Garmin’s autocorrect is only done automatically for devices without barometers. You can turn it on in Garmin Connect.

  • @mattpeters81  I’ve seen 100’ an odd 400’ an odd even 700’ an odd come up when setting off from home, in reality I’m at ~14’ ASL

    Strangely all the above variations were in ‘mountain’ mode, just of late I’ve been back on the road so am using ‘road’ mode and these seem to be (fairly) accurate which is alright with me. When I get time I’ll try ‘mountain’ mode again and compare them. When I looked at the ‘locations’ file my home address was correct, I altered it for a ride then altered it back, it didn’t seem to make any difference, but this was in road not mountain mode (profile).

    Because I’m close to the coast, any increase in altitude is noticeable and I like to see each foot recorded.

    The unit has not got water inside it BTW

  • When the barometer gets fairly wet from road spray while riding in the rain I find it basically stops working until it dries out which becomes super obvious when comparing elevation data from the GPS.  Honestly I could have just been thinking of some other service (or turned on autocorrect at one point and forgot about it Grinning)

  • Sometimes the elevation-correction at the start (with accurate saved location) is not working, i noticed it a few times since i ride outside this year (so with 9.75, since 1.5months apprx), i switched the unit on from turned-off state , the gps was off due to indoor trainings , so i had to enable the gps+galileo, there was gps fix with lots of visible and traced sats (only gps sats, but i dont care it anymore , it is a bug in the gps firmware i think), and i checked the arrow (my position) on the map, that was withing a few meter to the saved location marker, my elevation was on 411m  (the saved is 458m), i pressed the start button and the barometer - correction was not made... and my whole workout has -47m offset in altitude... and it happens randomly, because other days in 90% it is working.

    the firmware of the X30 series is a garbage, honeslty i would fire all the coders from the Edge team...  (i bought a ForeRunner 965 for backup device, that is perfect for recording , as the Fenix3 was too, those programmer's group can code, the Edge team can't..)
