Garmin’s Routable Cycle map of Europe 2022.11 comes with the GEOCODE map for EDGE 530. WHY?

I had never seen the Geocode map on my Edge 530 before I installed 2022.11.

I did the install today and I observed immediately in a file explorer that the earlier 3 img files has been replaced by 4 img files.

I checked the map list on my 530, and I saw that a new Geocode map is there, not just the usual Central, East and West cycle maps. So I googled for Geocode map and found out that this map is needed for address-level searches and navigations. Wow, Edge 830 is able to do that, but until now 530 could not search for addresses and POIs.

I also checked the beta softwares, but there is no version which supports it.

So is it just a malfunction from Garmin to distribute Geocode map for Edge 530 devices, or did they just do it too early, because they are planning to give this function to 530?

Even if the former is much more probable I post it here, maybe I just think and write nonsense, because I missed and confused something.

It has been removed.

You have the Central, West, East at the top of the listing. A custom map, the DEM map and I believe the Trailforks map.

Let me check that. You are correct that the 530 should not get the Gecode map.

A similar thing happened with the Aust/NZ update a few weeks ago and Garmin claimed to have resolved the issue. It looks like they have repeated the error for Europe.

And also they distributed 3x maps of Europe in ONE download, with no partial install option. The update have 12gb, and full space of the 530 is 14gb... And by the way, the 2022.11 maps are out of date by 6 months, at least. It's a shame, if i buy today a brand new edge 1040 i will have a 600euros device with old maps!!!

Sure, but 12gb is not the real size, because it includes geocode, which is like 1.5gb (as I remember).

Moreover GE asked me which region I wanted to install after it had realized that there was not enough free space. So even if there is no partial install option to choose any 2 from the 3 maps, at least one can install one of the 3 maps if there is not enough space.

12Gb is the unique size of one download with no options.

How on earth will you navigate now since every road/trail/mountain has changed drastically in that time

The map set should now be fixed to not install the Gecode map on the 530. You can either manually remove the file or uninstall and re-install the map.

I am using OpenTopoMaps since 2021 because Garmin maps are always outdated...

All maps are out of date regardless of if they are Garmin or OSM etc. It is impossible to have a map that is current even on the day of publication or release.

Basically to have a map update, every feature, road, lane etc would have to be checked moments before a map is released, and then without doubt, hours, day or two later, it would be out of date.

That's true, but one thing is outdated by 1 month other thing is updated by a year or 6 months!!! I have weekly updated my maps or monthly.
