Edge 530 not uploading rides + other connection oddities.

Following a device reset my 530 is not uploading (via Wi-Fi) my rides, they are recorded on the device though. Even when I plug into the PC and Garmin Express goes through the sync process, but the rides do not appear on Garmin Connect (website).

Also Garmin Express say’s ‘connected’ even when my device is not plugged in (USB).
When it is plugged in to the PC and I use Garmin Express to update maps/software etc it goes through the process of updating but noting is actually updated. It says updated, but then when I unplug and re-plugin it says the same updates are ready to install.

In desperation, I’ve tried another device reset but nothing has changed. I've also tried reinstalling Garmin Express, no change there either.
I do NOT use a mobile phone, only the PC to connect via a USB. The 530 should upload via Wi-Fi

  • I would encourage you to reach out to your local support team for further support. It may be necessary to request log information from your device and Garmin Express, and we would not ask you to post this in the public forums. Support link

In order for the Edge to sync via Wifi your network needs to meet the requirements in this article. Setting Up or Troubleshooting Wi-Fi on a Fitness Device Link

  • I have done this, then emailed in some files as requested. I am now waiting for a response from Garmin control

  • How many files are in the Garmin\Activities folder on the unit?  If there are lots try removing them all.  These units are known to go weird when the number gets close to 200 files in that folder.

  • Number of files = 194

Having reached this number they remain at 194 and does not increase beyond this level, as a new activities is recorded the oldest file is deleted

    automatically.

I'll give it go, see what happens.

  • Garmin control have replied with an offer of a swap-out if I return my 530.

I will not be doing this though, as I have restored the original garmin folder to the device. This has solved the unit problems, mostly.

Garmin Express is still playing up...

  • I have now tried removing the .fit files from the 'Activities' folder. This has had no noticeable affect at all. No harm and no advantage was observed.

I have figured out that somehow the Garmin Express program has confused my backup ‘Garmin’ folder located on one of my backup hard drives as the Garmin folder on my Edge 530 device.

By removing the backup drive temporarily while connecting my Edge 530, Garmin Express now directs its attention to the correct place. Namely the Garmin folder on the Edge 530 device.  The auto-detect in the Garmin Express doesn’t appear to have enough parameters inbuilt to get it right.

I am currently updating my maps with Garmin Express, lets see what happens next.
