Anyone experiencing constant ANT+ sensor dropouts with 4iiii precision 3 power meter?

Hi forum,

I have had a very frustrating 3 way relationship with my Edge 530 and 4iiii Precision 3 power meter. The setup worked one day, and then slowly increased the frequency of disconnections to the point it wouldn't connect anymore. I asked 4iiii for help but were unable to do anything but eventually replacing the crank arm with attached device. I haven't received it yet but by reading the literature on this forum, I have the feeling that Garmin Edge firmware might be a central issue.

Has anyone found a workaround to this particular issue? Has Garmin helped individually. I am so tired of this that I am ready for a Device brand change very soon.

Hello.

I have 530 and 3 different powermeters: 4iiii Precision, Garmin Vector 3 Dual and InPeak.
With all of them connected to Edge 530 I have exactly the same issues with dropouts so I think problem rootcause is with 530, not powermeter.

Hi MarcinJ,

Thanks for your reply. I also i have a bunch of power meters. 3 SRAM eTap and AXS, and a smart trainer Elite. They all work fine. This is why I am confused. Was it ever stable on older firmwares or always operating poorly?

I will try on another Garmin and also Wahoo to compare when I have a chance.

It was never stable since I bought my Edge530 in November '22 with 9.10 firmware.

GPLama has done a review on youtube of the brand new precision 3 power meter. He appears to suggest that the 4iiii with its huge 800 hour battery life may have some excessive power saving features which cause drop outs.

Hi @David_h I will take a look, thanks for this. This was also my fear. But 4iiii released a firmware to prevent the going to sleep too quick.

I have tried my new replacement unit on 2 rides and it seems to hold. But I need a few weeks of riding before I cry victory. Stay tuned.
