Map issue

I had been thinking of getting anEdge 530 when I saw an early Black Friday deal.  Great price - but if I click Browse map, it showsTaiwan.

Under save my location it shows:

Location 001 N

Garmin Taiwan E

Garmin Europe NW

Garmin NE

If I tell it to save my location it goes into Acquiring current location and never seems to get any further.

I really want to use it to navigate in the UK.  What am I doing wrong?

  • You may have to leave it somewhere with a good view of the sky for up to 15 minutes (usually a lot less though) to get the first GPS fix when brand new.

  • So as with all tech the answer is really simple if you know how ... I took it into the garden and tried again, and bingo now it knows that I am not in Taiwan but in a London suburb!  Thank you.

  • Note that this is a general issue for any GPS device.

If you travel somewhere else or don’t use the device for a long period, you’ll have to leave it out to get GPS signals for a while.

Plugging it into Garmin Express is another (faster) way to get the updated “ephemera” data.
