Error slope measure Edge 530

Hi I have a problem with my 530.
The measurement of the slope and the difference in height are completely wrong, often it indicates a negative slope even if I am uphill.
I tried to reset the device but it didn't help?
Anyone know how I can fix it? Could it be a software or gps antenna problem?
Thank you

  • Try reboot the device during a trip

  • Negative slope on an uphill and vice versa are quite common issues, it's always happening on my 530. What do you expect from a Garmin Edge, something that works as it should.?

  • I don't doubt that some have had troubles, but keep in mind that grade (slope) is a calculated result, not directly measured.  Slope is rise/run, so the Edge is calculating based on elevation change over a certain distance traveled.  If you've been climbing and just start the descent or vice versa it will take a hundred feet of travel on the new grade (slope) to resolve.  So if climbing right after a descent it won't read correctly until you've climbed long enough for it to take effect.  The point is, it won't instantly read correctly when changing from uphill to downhill, it needs time to calculate a new result.

I'm guesstimating at about 100 feet of forward travel for slope change to resolve as that's what I've seen with my 530.  Perhaps I'm just lucky that I have one that works correctly.

  • my problem is not in sudden changes in slope as soon as a climb or a descent begins, but it also manifests itself in long and constant climbs where lately I always read negative slope values while I am uphill and vice versa positive values when the road goes down. Not talking about the total height difference which consequently turns out to be wrong. Now I think it is a serious Garmin problem that cannot be solved with a simple reset, also because I have already done two and nothing has changed, so I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and how they solved it.

  • its not gps you have a barometric sensor, the pin hole might be partially blocked, just be careful in cleaning and you dont push into hole, use a vacuum, technically your measuring elevation incrementally and slope/vam ascending are being calculated
