Pinned RWGPS route/course synch, unexpected issue

I love this feature... Make a route in RWGPS, pin it, and it magically appears on my Edge 530.  It works great, exactly what I want.  BUT...  It also concurrently downloads the route to my Instinct watch, which I do not want.  I'm posting here instead of the Instinct watch forum, as I'd expect there to be more RWGPS knowledge here.

Does anyone know of a way to only allow these pinned routes (courses) to show up on the Edge and not the Instinct watch?  Thanks!

  • Use the RWGPS IQ app. It only downloads what you select. Do not use the sync function from the RWGPS website.

  • GPS applications on mobile devices are very useful

  • Thanks for the reply.  I generally create routes on my laptop and I like sending directly from there.  I'll have to look at the RWGPS CIQ app and see if that is easier than uploading from RWGPS web page.

  • It is almost magical. Pin the route on the ridewithgps web page or from the phone app. It can be a route you have created or one that you have a link to from any source. On your Edge device, Select the ridewithgps IQ app. Select pinned routes, find the one you want and select download. Very shortly it will be in your saved courses on the Edge. Works well with your phone connected by bluetooth. One thing to note, if you change or delete a pinned route on the Edge it will not be available to download again until you unpin and re-pin the route.

  • Yes, I had the magical experience just by pinning the route on the desktop RWGPS!  The trouble is that in addition to sending the route to my Edge 530, it also sends the route to my Garmin Instinct watch!  I'm trying to preserve the "magical" experience of it going to the 530, but NOT to the watch.  I don't want any routes to go to my Instinct watch.

Based on what you describe, I'm still "pinning the route" on RWGPS which will still send it to my Instinct watch, so I'm still in the same bad place.  So for now I'm manually exporting the file to Garmin Connect, then sending to device from there.  That works fine, but it was so much easier to just "pin" on RWGPS and it just appears on the Edge with the next sync.

  • Disable the syncing of RWGPS pinned routes through Garmin Connect.

Use the RWGPS IQ app (or use my GRouteLoader IQ app/widget).

It won't be quite as magical as the syncing but these will be pretty close.

  • You need to remove/disable Garmin Courses sync. That is auto-syncing all of your pinned routes.

  • Could you please share the results of this in more detail. @terry

  • I never went any further, I just stopped pinning routes in RWGPS.  Honestly, I don't really understand apps and widgets, the differences and how to use.  I haven't devoted the time to searching for a "how to" and of course there isn't much in the Garmin manual for guidance.

I don't think the solution I want exists.  I'd like the pinned route to still magically go to my Edge but not my Garmin watch.  I trust that suggested a viable solution, but I haven't researched the apps/widgets he mentioned.

Perhaps someone can explain it all to me like I'm a little kid, step by step, but perhaps too painful!  Lol  I liked the pinned getting sent automatically, but not being able to choose which devices is a deal killer for me.

They are basically the same thing. Apps can't be used when you are recording an activity. One accesses apps and widgets differently.

RWGPS has an app that is easy to use though it isn't automatic.

I have app and widget versions of a "thing" that does the same thing as the RWGPS app (and a bunch of other stuff). If you want to download routes from RWGPS, you'll have to use the widget version of my "thing"/
