Extended display wiht Epix2 - and showing? maps

Is there a way to show map on Edge530 when in extended mode display??

I have epix2 and one of the data cards during bike activity is the TOPO map - that came with watch.

Now edge also have maps that i can see when using it in normal mode, BUT whenever i use extended dispaly option - it mirror information from epix - INSTEAD of map it only shows direction like: SW, N, E etc??

is there a way to actually either mirror map from watch or for edge to show map that it's got preloaded on that screen with overlay of my postion on it?

  • I don't think you can do that. The Extended Display feature is mainly intended for triathlons when you record the entire race on your watch but want to easily see certain metrics during the bike portion without having to look at your wrist. On most triathlons the course is marked so competitors don't need a map for navigation.

But even for triathlons I find the Extended Display feature kind of pointless and no longer use it. What I do is start an activity on my Edge 530 when I rack my bike in the transition area and make sure all the sensors are connected. Then during the bike portion I can use all the regular bike computer features including checking the map if necessary. At the end of the triathlon I just discard the activity on my Edge 530 and save the activity only on my watch so that I don't end up with a duplicate.

The Extended Display profile would be more useful on devices like the (now discontinued) Garmin Varia Vision which don't contain their own GNSS receiver and can't pair directly with other external sensors. But for full featured bike computers I really don't see the point.
