is gmapbmap.img specific to my Garmin?

First off - I'm a dumbass and accidentally deleted the gmapbmap.img  file when I was trying to change maps for the first time and I didn't back up my files.

1. Is the gmapbmap.img specific to my Garmin 530? Can I transfer the gmapbmap.img from another Garmin 530 to my device and rectify my mistake?

2. Does anybody have a gmapbmap.img from their Garmin 530 they can send to me? Thank you so much in advance!

Chris

  • Yes, you can copy it from another 530. Or any other Edge (generally).

It’s the “base map”, which shows some things and major roads. It can’t e used for navigation .

It’s not essential but still kind of useful. It make low zoom levels faster and provides some context from places you don’t have detailed maps for.

  • Thanks dpawlyk!

I find it super odd that the Garmin website doesn't let you "download" a gmapbmap in case this happens. They also write on their website that if we accidentally delete gmapbmap.img, we need to send the unit back in for replacement or repair for a fee.

This makes it sounds like just copy+paste a gmapbmap from another unit won't fix it... or is Garmin just being not customer friendly in this regard?

  • I have no idea why they say that. It doesn’t make sense.

It would make things much more expensive for Garmin  for that file not to be the same for all the units.

The file isn’t necessary (but it’s good to have).

You aren’t the first person to delete this file.

    Get a copy from somebody.
