Garmin Edge 530 Courses not properly syncing with Strava Maps

I'm having issues getting the courses on my Garmin Edge 530 to match my starred routes created in Strava. There are tons of old routes on my Garmin Device that won't disappear, and when I star new routes to sync over to my Garmin, they are not showing up under Navigation and Courses. If I try to access the routes under Connect IQ > Strava routes on my device, the starred routes appear, but when I click to navigate the route I receive Error Code 2050 "Trouble Connecting to the Server." I have unsynced Garmin and Strava and reset the connection. I have unstarred all routes and re-starred just the one I want to use, but the courses on the Garmin device remain unchanged. The two systems are not mirroring each other as intended and I can't get the starred routes I want to port over to my Garmin Device. Please let me know if there is a way to resolve this issue so that only the starred routes via Strava show up under the Navigation Courses on my device.

  • There are tons of old routes on my Garmin Device that won't disappear,

Have you reached the 100 course limit of the 530?  The old courses (routes) won't disappear, you have to delete them from the device.  You can delete from within the 530, but that is tedious.  Easier to plug into a laptop and open the Courses folder to delete multiple courses at once.  Likely a good time to delete old rides from the Activities folder as well, they also stay until deleted and eat up memory.

  • Thanks - looks like that was part of the issue. I wiped out the entire folder to start over on a clean slate. I was under the impression that only the starred routes would appear on the device, which doesn't seem to be the case. I guess for now I'll just duplicate whatever Strava routes I want to be added to the device as it appears only "new" routes get ported over from Strava to the 530. It's a little confusing how routes get added under Navigation > Courses as well as via Connect IQ > Strava routes. I suppose there's just a bit more maintenance involved versus the two sites mirroring one another with the starred routes selected. But, this will get me squared away for adding new routes, thank you!
