Making room for a new map on Edge 530?

I purchased my 530 in Europe, but I live in Canada. I bought Garmin's North American map, but after downloading it won't let me install it onto my 530 because there's not enough space. Is there a way to safely remove the European map to make room for the NA map? Removing activities and routes won't leave nearly enough space.

wadoha You can follow the instructions in the link HERE to safely remove the old map files to free up enough space for your new ones.

Copy the EU map files off the unit while it is plugged into a computer. They are in the \Garmin folder on the unit..

Yeah, I wanted to try that but it wasn't clear to me which files the EU maps were.

The map files have .img extensions.

gmaptz.img is the timezone map and should be left alone.

gmapdem.img is the elevation map.

The ones with the biggest file sizes will be the road maps. You could always move one of them off at a time and then look at the map list on your unit to see if a map disappeared. If you keep them safely stored on a computer you can always put them back at any time.
