"Make a U-Turn" constantly on while following a course

Regardless of whether I am on course or off a course my 530 tells me to take a U-turn.

This is pretty damn irritating, since I have to stop, zoom out & see if I am actually on track.

Is there a way to get rid of this?

Moreover, why is that notice there when I am on course?

FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

  • If you search in the 530, 830, 1030, 1030+ forums (they all have the same software)  for U-turn etc you will find dozens, yes dozens of postings about this, the causes are always the same (mis-match between the map used for planning and the internal garmin device map) and solutions the same (use maps more likely to be as similar as possible & pay close attention to there your planned route goes, hint zoom in so you can see). Some of the postings will talk about the basic logic of "navigating" and an understanding of this will help you watch out for things that will more likely cause navigation issues, In the end the cycling devices have limitations of processor capacity, memory and power consumption which limit their ability compared with auto type GPS devices. They are pretty good but not perfect.

One solution is to disable the "turn guidance" and just follow the route line on the map, it will always only go where you planned it to go and never lead you astray, if it leads you up a dead end that is because it is where you created the route to go (you might not have intended it but that's where it went), good luck and safe riding.

  • Thanks for the reply.

This is a problem with basic, navigation 101.

C'mon Garmin, "Make a U-Turn" while on course?

All of the "solutions" are not solutions at all.

    I'm a loyal Garmin customer.

    Edge 800, 820, 530 (X2, wife has one).

    FR910, 920, 935, 230.

    Varia Radar (original), new (X2).

    Garmin can do better.

  • Perhaps turning off "off course warnings" would eliminate the U turn message.
