can I display speed while navigating a course

I would like to be able to see my speed while navigating a course.  Can I do it?  If so, how?

Yes, and much more. Perhaps you are new to garmins & the 530 so rather than a lengthy explanation it might be better if you have a look at these two short videos from VeloGPS and they will (should) answer your questions

First includes how to add a speed data field to the map screen, watch it all but the specific bit starts at 6m00s

And this is how it looks in a navigation

  • Hi L. Rouge.  I appreciate your response.  I spent over an hour looking at videos, reading internet posts, and "pushing logical buttons" on the device and figured this out myself.  Interestingly one of your videos is one I watched but didn't get as far as the 6 minute mark.Persevere

  • Yes, there are 2 ways of doing it.

    1. Just display normal data screens (with speed as one of the fields), and scroll to the map screen when you want to do a nav check. The course navigation will continue in the background, and you can set the navigation screen to pop up automatically as you approach turns. This is what I do personally.

    2. If you prefer to have the map screen on all the time, the map page can display 2 datafields, and you can select speed as one of those.

  • There is Connect IQ app that allows you to have multiple fields (i.e. more than 2) on the maps page. It's called MapDashboard, see here:
