Map screen as default on Edge 530

Is it possible to keep the map screen displayed as default on the Edge 530 rather than the data fields?  Currently the map only comes up when I am near a turn but I like to see further ahead when following a pre-planned route.  I am not too bothered about seeing my speed or distance etc all the time, I would rather see the map.

  • That does not sound right, when the map is being displayed it should remain on view untill you change to another page. When I select the map view, it remains in view for as long as I want and the only page that pops up is the navigation page briefly and once that clears, I am back to the map page.

Maybe you have selected the map page to only show when navigating, but, as I have never used that option, i don't really know what it does but, as you are navigating by the sounds of it, the map page should be showing anyway.

Or are you aware that you can scroll to other pages? If not, then that could be the cause of the problem because if you boot up with a data page showing, once the map page pops up with a turn, once it clears it will go back to the data page. Just use the two button on the left hand side below the power on/off button to scroll through the data pages and map page backwards or forwards

As far as I know, you cannot disable the map page from showing, so I doubt that is the problem.

But, are you using auto scroll in which case the datafields and map page will be scrolled through automatically, that is a setting that can be enabled or disabled. I find it pointless so never use it.

  • You can select whether it shows only when navigating or "always" as in it is always an available data screen.  You can also reorder your data screens so that the map page is at the top and therefore the default screen for that activity profile.

Menu -> Settings -> Activity Profiles -> [select the Activity Profile you are going to edit] -> Data Screens -> Map

From there you can go to "Show Map" to select either "Only When Navigating" or "Always".  Sounds to me like you want always. You can also select "Reorder Screen" from the previous menu options and then scroll up to the top to move "Map" to the top.  This makes it the first/default screen for that profile.

  • Thanks, I think you are correct.  I am new to using Garmin products and didn’t realise you could scroll the pages
