Garmin Edge 530 Not Being Recognised on Windows 10 PC

Hi all

It's a while since I posted in here.  My old Edge 530 just isn't showing up on my laptop and it's driving me to distraction.

I've literally tried everything and wondering if anyone has had a similar issue.

So, I be reset the device. Done the force mass storage (pressing lap/reset).  I've checked the usb on laptop, all working.  Picks up my fenix 6 perfectly.

I've deleted the usb via device manager and allowed the computer to reinstall.

I've uninstalled Garmin express. Bought a new usb lead from Garmin.  I even downloaded the the drivers from Garmin (2015 dated)

I plug in - the usual ping pong noise on 2 occasions.  But in my computer the drive is not there.  This is validated by Garmin express not picking it up.

The Garmin edge flash drive is there in device manager, hower, there is an exclamation mark.  It indicates, there is no drivers installed.  Ive tried updating by pointing to the prog files and USB drivers but it says it can't install.

I contacted Garmin and sent device back and got a device back. Plugged it in expecting the best.  Same problem as above.

Any help

  • Try using a different PC / laptop as that has been a problem with my home computer as it would work with my work pc, I have even found when I plug in mobile and then the garmin it doesnt connect. you have also eject or disconnect the edge through windows as this is the major culprit with your edge not connecting, have a look at this advice www.auslogics.com/.../

  • Many thanks.  If only I had another PC/Laptop. It doesn't really explain how it recognises my Fenix and not the edge.

I take your point about ejection and that is something I always do, if it is there.  Sadly, I can't eject at this time because there is simply no device attached.  I'm guessing, because the laptop can not talk to the device, since it's indicated 'no drivers installed'.

I'll give that web page a look. Some interesting  points on migrated devices.  Everything else is up to date.

Why on earth they can't offer a map download feature via connect.

  • Have you run the System file checker on Windows? This may find a corrupt file that is causing the USB issue.

  • I have a Fenix6 and edge530, 910, the edge 530 is attached with a drive letter where as fenix is attached with no drive letter, so they have different drivers, the article also mentions system file checker as mentioned by @cheracogff

  • Thanks for the reply.  Sorry, I'm a little bit of a novice - system file checker. Take it, if I do a search in Windows this option will come up?  Is it an automated service?
