Incident detection is getting more sensitive, creating false positives in every activity

I think Edge 530 is getting more and more sensitive for incident detection. After every software update, at same point of my well known routes, by ex. descending some steps, it starts beeping.
Now, I known where it'll create a false alarm in every of my routes.
May be is some legal issue from Garmin to avoid lawsuits, but is very annoying.

  • can you confirm you're using the Garmin mount that came with your Edge? If not, please use this and let me know if this helps.

What surface(s) are you riding on and noticing these alerts? Lastly, is this occurring primarily when you are coming to a quick stop or while you are just riding in general?

  • I don't have it as bad as you're describing, but I do have an instance that I can make fairly repeatable for triggering the incident alarm.  When I ride my bike back to my garage after my commute, I often ride it down 2 steps leading to the door.  If I stop the timer immediately after stopping in front of the door (right after riding down the steps), it will trigger an incident.  I then have to go through the protocol of stopping the notification from going out.  If I pause for a few moments before stopping the timer, it seems to avoid the incident trigger.  Something about the jolting from descending the steps immediately followed by stopping the timer seems to trigger the incident detection.  I'm not sure if that helps OP at all, but the issue sounded related to what I'm experiencing.

  • Exact! I can reproduce the issue: just go down a ladder of 4 or 5 steps while holding my bike (walking, not riding) and stop for some seconds to open a door, causes alarm to fire.

  • I'm using this mount issued for my Scott bike's stem. I'll install original Garmin mount and try.

Furthermore, I can reproduce the issue: just go down a ladder of 4 or 5 steps while holding my bike (walking, not riding) and stop for some seconds to open a door, causes alarm to fire.

Only fires after stepping down and stopping, not while riding.

  • Please let me know after trying the Garmin mount if this changes anything or not for you.

  • Mine has only ever been on a Garmin mount.  I disabled incident detection as it would regularly trigger a call as I braked on approach to two local junctions.   Both are slightly downhill and have a relatively rough road surface.  I would leave it switched on if it was a rare occurrence but I found it very distracting when I am negotiating a junction with a busy road,

  • After two weeks of testing, I can see with Garmin mount incidences are a bit less frequent, but they persist. The only thing I noted is false "great jump" positives issued using Scott mount were gone with the Garmin one.
This behavior has changed since I acquired the device a year ago. I think software has become more sensitive, may be?
