Edge 530 repeatedly stops following a course

While following a planned course during a long multi-day race, my Garmin Edge 530 suddenly stopped following the course, forcing me to reload it.

It happened many times (5-10 times per day), and It had been the first time I observed this behaviour.

The courses where longer than usual (350 km), the settings where the same I had been using before without any problem (recalculation off etc.).

The only noticeable difference was that I had many Strava segments during the course, and my feeling Is that they somewhat "took control" over the main course when active, possibly causing the problem when an "off segment" was detected (as It sometimes happens).

Someone has experienced a similar problem?

Thanks

Franco

  • I know users who frequently do 300, 400, 600, 1000, 1200 km rides with a 530 but they practice the art of asking the least from the device, the more complications you demand from it the less reliable it becomes so typically no BT connections, no wi-fi, no "turn guidance" (just follow the course line on the map, maybe supplemented with a few course points., minimal sensors and the plus side is with minimal / no backlight you also get 40+ hours from a battery.
