Edge 530 randomly beeping

After I disabled ALL alarms and notifications and tones in every hidden menu, my Garmin keeps beeping totally random without showing a notification or message. It‘s a short beep, sometimes every couple seconds or minutes, sometimes it‘s quit for almost an hour. Anyway, it really annoys me while riding.

Garmin, why is there not one single button/setting to completely mute the device?!? I am close to throwing it away…

  • No random beep here.  Maybe it has something to do with navigation, or some warning that is not deactivated.

  • Is this a new 530 and has always done this or an old 530 that worked ok previously but now does not?

If new are you "starting" an activity by pressing the bottom right button, if you don't then it beeps away at you till you do.

The Menu > Settings > System > Tones & Key Tones > Enable / Disable "should" turn off all Tones but I fully admit I am among the majority (?) of users that have trouble hearing any tones even when enabled so don't really know if other setting override these

  • Settings > System > Tones unfortunately does not override other tones at all.... eventually I found out what the random beep was: my Sram eTap was connected, and it was beeping everytime when the chain was either in the lowest or highest gear and I tried to change gear further, even though there are no more gears... something that rarely happens to me on solo rides, but it often happened while chatting during a ride with friends and shifting gears without concentration.

so the solution for my problem: in sensors, there is a menu like "Gear Sensor > Sensor Information > Tones > Enable/Disable". I disabled it and now my garmin is quiet.

  • Do you use an electronic shifting system? If so then the beep could be the end of gear range warning or an attempted over shift warning.

To disable it look under the sensor settings for the shifting system when the unit is in communication with the shifting system for a tome control.
