My 530 does not record accurately in wooded areas. I had this problem with my 520, but not to this extent. It will go from 18 mph to 2 or 3, or even zero. Distance, again stops recording. Timer and elevation keep functioning.

You need a speed sensor, that's why they exist. Well worth the $35 to get accurate speed and distance. I also recommend you manually calibrate it, makes it much more accurate. It's as easy as rolling out the wheel next to a tape measurer and entering four numbers.
