Live Track Failed Error Code 400

Live Track was working perfectly…and now it’s not. I haven’t changed anything in my setup. Last two rides I got the completely meaningless error code listed in the title.

I start the Garmin, open the phone app and let them get acquainted while I finish putting my gear on. Start the ride and after a couple of minutes, get an error code.

Live Track is the ONE feature I really want to work…and it doesn’t. I may as well have stuck with my old Edge 705. At least that worked.

  • My LiveTrack failed yesterday as well.  And has been spotty since buying the 530 a month ago.

  • Same settings, same phone…even the same route. It used to work fine and now it doesn’t. If I wasn’t just outside the Amazon returns window, this thing would be getting sent back with a jar of Vaseline.

  • I don't remember if that was the same Error Code I was getting but I was told to turn off the WiFi on my phone before beginning a ride.  I don't know how or why....  but it worked.  So now before I head out I turn it off and then back on again when I get home.

  • I shall try turning off WiFi on my phone, thanks for the heads up!

  • It worked today, but I hit the “Start” button while I was still in the house. Not sure if I started the app or the Garmin first, this time. I usually start the Garmin while I’m putting my shoes and helmet on, to give it time to find satellites and all that. (Holdover habit from my 705, which took a few minutes to get it act together).

  • Two rides in a row with WiFi turned off on the phone and LiveTrack has worked on both.  One ride had navigation, the other did not, but both worked.  So perhaps turning WiFi off on phone is the fix.

  • I have no clue. As I said above, I thought starting the timer in the house was the answer. I also was wondering about whether the order you start the devices - app on the phone and Garmin - makes a difference…yet yesterday, I did two rides without starting the Garmin in the house and the second ride, I didn’t even bother starting the app on the phone…and yet both worked.

    I got nuthin’!

  • Long Story:  I had an Edge 520 that was dropping out ALL the time during Live Track.  I had countless conversations and trouble tickets issued with Garmin customer service.  There main answer was that it was the phone service in my area.  Some times LT would work as expected and then other times it would just stop at random points in my rides.  My rides were being recorded properly, but if you were trying to follow me you never knew when and where it might just stop tracking me.  Garmin said it was either this or that.  Finally, as a courtesy they replaced my 520 with a 530.  On my first ride with the 530 everything seemed to work fine.  Then on my 2nd and 3rd rides with the 530 it started to exhibit the same behavior as the 520.  But, this time it gave me an error code (400) on the screen.  Garmin said that this was some sort of network(ing) conflict and to try turning the WiFi off before a ride.  I have about 12 rides with the new 530 and the WiFi turned off and everything is working perfectly.  The old 520 was not showing any error code and if it wasn't for the 530's ability to show this code I don't think there would have been any resolution as to why this was happening.
