PLEASE Add an Option to Disable Course Points Globally

I NEVER want to see Course Point Summary while riding. I use the nav turn by turn, but I don't care about the Summary page. I ride with multiple groups and have probably 40-50+ courses loaded. And EVERY SINGLE TIME I load a new course, I have to go dig into the menu for that course and disable course points.

There should be a way to do this globally where they only show if I enable that feature (or at minimum default to importing with it OFF). It's such a waste of time. And if I quick-load a course and take off without remembering to do that, I have to try to nav on the fly and turn it off which isn't safe or helpful.

I shouldn't have to go through this labyrinth every time I sync courses to my device:

Settings : Navigation : Courses : [Course Name] : Settings : "DISABLE COURSE POINTS"

I know I'm not the only one that has this problem as I've seen other mentions of it. If there's somewhere else I should post this to get it seen by someone at Garmin, please let me know.

  • I can understand your dislike for this feature, my pet dislike is the pointless & distracting direction arrows introduced in version 8 and which also can't be turned off at all, they often completely obscure the actual route. (I have gone back to v7.10 due to these and dropouts on my "smart" trainer with v8 and above)

For your course points, in the absence of a change to the garmin software which may never come at this late stage in the 530 lifecycle, there are some ways for getting rid of the cue / course points at the route planning end. Course points are only supported by the .FIT & .TCX route formats so if you save the route download as a .GPX it will not have course points at all, still works perfectly, (well at least as good as the other formats), if you are using on device "turn guidence".

Another option, some route planners (eg RwGPS) allow you to globally turn off the generation of the course points (Route Planner > Settings > Generate Cuesheet > OFF) and also allows you to remove them from existing routes (Clear All > Cues) and of course Garmin Connect route planner does not automatically create cue/course points at all

At least you have options, I would even be happy with an arrow disable switch for each course if that was all I could get,  good luck & riding.

  • I'd also like to see this, if for no other reason than to fix the bug where riding a course that's still calculating crashes the device if you cross a course point.

  • Thanks for the thoughtful answer. And I can see where that is frustrating. However, my issue is actually different (and partly why it's so annoying). They have so many things labeled similarly. I want to get rid of the screen that shows a turn-by-turn list. I have my screens rotate through while I'm riding and it's just a wasted screen. But the only way to get rid of that screen seems to be to turn off "Course Points" in the individual course setting. It may do other stuff as well, but I just want to get rid of that extra screen that wastes time I want to be looking at other metrics. Maybe the same toggle controls both things but they need to provide a way to disable that extra screen.

It looks something like this but this is a screenshot I found only:

And this has been an issue on the 52, 530, and I think maybe on the 130 as well? So this is an ongoing issue and not related exclusively to the 530.

  • How are you getting routes onto the device?
