Wrong Heart Rate Zone Data = bad load mesure

Hi

Something wrong was lately with my heart rate zones- on Garmin Connect and My Fenix 6 it was ok, but on my Edge 530 was like:

zone 5   > 3 bpm •
zone  4   2 - 2 bpm •
zone  3   1 - 1 bpm •
zone  2   0 - 0 bpm •
zone  1   255 - -1 bpm •

(of course i didn't change anything)

I saw my load and training effects were messed up, but I don't had time to figure it out why. Today I saw HR zones, and it is why load is bad. Now even my 7day load is not showing. In my past 10 trainings I have 0:00 time in all zones.

Any chance to fix it? I set proper zones on edge530 and then I've tried to export from GC then delete and upload again, but from .fit files it uploads everything as it was with 0:00 time in all zones and bad load and training effects .Doing the same with gpx wont work at all, and with tcx i have proper time in zones, but i have 0 TSS  and no load data (and no training effect)

Any ideas?

  • Load and other metrics use maxHR as a key input, rather than zones. I suspect the root cause is that the maxHR datapoint that is corrupted (this is also the default method for calculating zones).

Set your maxHR and zones on GC, and sync them to the device, rather than the other way around. GC settings will overwrite the device settings.

  • I don't know it went screwy but I would just change the zones back to whatever they should be.  You can't do anything about any rides recorded with the wrong zones but going forward they will be OK.  The training effect will get back to normal.  You will just have to accept that the numbers will be off until the bad data has got old enough not to matter.

I agree with macalista - Set the zones in Connect and sync with the Edge.  It is the best way to get the zones set how you want.  I would also not base zones off of max HR.  I set them off LTHR.  Whatever you base them off you don't have to accept the default zone boundaries.  You can change them - just type the detail in the boxes in Connect.
