map not visible on Garmin Edge 530 while riding

My Garmin 530 doesn't show maps while I ride; always shows up fine later on Garmin Connect app. While riding, I can only see an arrow cursor while I'm moving, and the direction, but no map appears. How can I get maps to show up while I'm riding? My last Garmin 530 did this automatically, but this one never shows maps while I'm navigating. How to fix this?

A couple of possibilities:

All the maps are disabled. Check under Settings>Activity Profile>Navigation>Map

Your location is outside the region of the installed map coverage.

The only maps on this new Garmin start with EU in the title. Apparently this device only loads European maps by default. My old Garmin had my US local maps installed by default. Why did this one come loaded with EU only? In any case, how can I load up maps local to my home area (Austin, TX)?

If you purchased it online from an EU supplier it will have EU maps. If you purchased it locally, it may have been supplied with the wrong maps, which I believe has happened before.

Otherwise, you can download free maps from a number of sources.

That link has out of date information. For third party maps https://extract.bbbike.org/ is the best place to get them. Use the Latin versions.

It was mainly for the process. There is actually a link to BBBike.org contained in it. I also agree that it's the best place to get them.
