Transfer Totals From Edge 810 to Edge 530

Apologies, but I wonder if anyone can assist ?  I have recently purchased an Edge 530, after years of using an Edge 810.  I would like to transfer the mileages for each of the bikes I have set up on my Edge 810.  I have tried copying the totals.fit file from my Edge 810 to the newfiles folder on my Edge 530, but the totals for each of the profiles on my Edge 530 remain at zero.  Is anyone able to advise if there is a process I need to follow the convert the totals file before transferring ?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Gordon

  • Hi,
I may be mistaken but as the bikes are defined in the connect web/application as an equipment and their milage is kept there, i guess you need to do nothing other than connect and sync your 530 device.

    Have you tried that?

  •  Why would you keep all your rides on your 530?  Upload them to Garmin Connect.  Garmin Connect will add the mileage to your "default" gear.  Then just open Connect and edit that ride to show what gear you used for that ride.  Then you have a breakdown for each bike.  I delete the rides from my 530 as soon as I know they've been uploaded.  Why take up valuable memory?

  • I upload all of my rides to Strava, so have them there.  I would like to keep the total mileage I have done for each bike on the Garmin though, as I have done with my 500, then 810 and now 530.  Do you have a solution to the question I asked ?

  • Thanks Oren.  I had a look and cannot see anything on Connect.  My Edge 500 and Edge 810 kept running totals of total mileage for each bike on the unit.  The 530 does the same, but I need to get my current totals copied across.

  • Speaking for myself coming from a 510 to a 530, the profiles logic changed from bike profiles to activity profiles.  So the odometer is now by activity profile (road, MTB, etc) vs bike profiles.  I suppose you could change your profiles to be by bike, but it isn't something I ever looked into.  As others have mentioned, I track my data by bike in Strava.

  • Hi,

Altought the attached is in Hebrew, you'll see hoe quipment tab in my Connect app is showing the bikes.
    What do you have there?

  • I am not sure if it would work but try editing the "Totals.fit" file on the 530. I have just had a look in a Fit file viewer and all the totals for all the activity profiles are there recorded in Kilometers.

But, as mentioned, the 530 uses activity profiles and if your like me, you could ride all your bikes in the same activity so that would not record the mileage for each bike.

But, the workaround is to create an activity profile for each bike as mentioned and that way it would record the mileage for each bike. And then once again, edit the totals fit file and each activity profile which you presumably would have given your bikes name for each one with what you have recorded from your 810

But, I don't know what program you would need to edit the fit file, its a long time since I have had to do it.

    I presume this would work.

  • I don't have my Edge with me today and the GC app says the device needs to be connected to view them.  But if I can remember right my activity profiles on my Edge 530 are Mountain Biking, Gravel, Commute, Race, and Other.

EDIT: I think I misunderstood.  I don't use GC to track by bike anymore, I do all of that in Strava.  I do have a list of bikes under "Gear" in GC though, but I don't assign them to activities.
