Please make Edge better for navigating

There are few simple things that can made edge edge much better for navigating.

1) add reverse course option for  navigating

2) add navigating to a point without routing  - simple bearing line (like on etrex)

3) add possibility to automaticly remove "off track" flag when navigating (now you have to push button)

4) add to automaticly full screen maps when not in navigation mode (two fields with data when on track and those fields are still there when not in navigating but they dont have data).

5) add "last used POIs" in menu for navigation

All these things are in other garmins (like etrex) so those features aren't new.

Best regards!

  • There is an option to navigate to a point with a simple bearing line in the menus..........if you can find it, I use it a lot at times when I am free running and always want to know how far from home I am so that I do not stray far. But, it is finding the option, I wanted it a couple of weeks back and twice I gave up looking for it as I was wasting time not riding, the third time I stopped, I found it and selected "Straight Line" or something like that. In fact, I do think the option is under if I recall wher you find it under where you select if your cycling, car, motorbike, walking etc. I think Garmin must think straight line navigation is a form of transport, maybe it should be renamed, "As the Crow Flies"!!! (In fact, just looked for it and its under "Routing", "Routing Mode", but do not search for it under the "Navigation" page on the main menu as it is not there, you will find it on the "Navigation" page under an activity profile.

But why is "straight line " navigation not where it should be, under the options of where you can select an option of distance or time etc for navigating where it was on an 800 etc.

The navigation on a 530 has a lot to be desired, for instance the one under an activity profile is different to the one you access from the main page before going into an activity profile. I mentioned this a while back, and I think there may be 2 navigation menus to access, both different.

For instance, if your riding a course for example but want to change to riding to a location, you cannot do it under the activity profile navigation menu as it only has courses listed, to do so, you have to toggle back to the main menu, find the navigation menu on that page, and not only will you find courses in that menu, but also locations where you can then select your location to go to, and then to make it more confusing, there is no option to ride to that location, after searching around, you eventually find the ride option after you have looked at the option off viewing the map?

Locations are no different to courses in the way off selecting and navigating too, why have them apart.

It would be just nice if Garmin got all Navigation options, under just one menu and not 2 and the same menu from wherever you access it from.

Thankfully, they had navigation right on my 800 and Dakota 20 and uncomplicated without hidden menus.

  • i came from etrex on my bike, and only for wifi connection for uploading routes and power reading capability. But navigation is so more inferior in edge that I am amazed that this is a device from the same company. I would prefer etrex touch i think only if it would be power meter capable and have wifi for course download.
