No training status Garmin Edge 530

Hello

I have noticed since the 19th of Feb my Tarining Status is not updating anymore for my Edge 530.
I cycle at least 3 times a week, I have a power meter and a HRM, my setup hasn’t changed and suddenly the training status as well as the 7-day training load won’t update (including vo2 max and recovery time).

My rides are correctly uploaded in GC app and I can see all the stats from there.

I also have a FR245 music and no issues with that.

I tried to upload my activities using Garmin Express but nothing changed. It is very frustrating especially because it was working perfectly and now all of sudden it is gone and I cannot find a solution anywhere. I tried to unpair and re-pair, switch on and off, re sync, nothing worked… I only switched to 530 from a 520 just because of this feature…

This is what I can see in GC web page (same in the app).

  • The VO2 max graph is missing in that page. Do you get VO2 max values calculated on the Edge?

VO2 max values are needed to get a training status.

Do you get the VO2 max graph if you go back in time?

  • I don’t get it even though the power meter is correctly paired and I can see it from the edge. Last time I rode indoor on my Tacx turbo trainer and in the past (before getting a power meter for my bike) it would update my VO2max using the pm from the trainer. Now it doesn’t do it anymore.

  • Had the same myself on this recently. Still trying to find a fix.

Most common trend I am seeing across most of these posts is multiple device usage and the Edge device failing. I have a Fenix 6 Pro and Edge 530. The only other impact that I can see when my issue started, was a Trainer Road ride synced out to my Garmin that day and my Garmin reset randomly for no reason when trying to load the route home from a start point (device has plenty of storage available).

V02 max reading is weird, it's calculating behind the scenes (as on Connect, it is showing as updated 'today' on a ride recorded on the Edge) but then not showing it in the training status information for the Edge which contributes towards the training load function.

I've tried a reset, un-sync and re-sync, deleted and re-added both devices. Physio True-up being enabled or disabled has no impact as to whether rides register training status information for the Edge.

I tried a ride yesterday recorded on both devices, specifically uploaded the Edge ride first, no data on status. Uploaded the Fenix ride, all data there on status albeit totally wrong as my status is so warped because all data has generally been recorded on the Edge recently and I've apparently been sat in recovery for 10 days (I wish).

There could be something in the default device and Physio True-up causing a mismatch of information and it's got itself in a knot, but I've tried a few combinations, and it just doesn't fix it. Or maybe I'm the one in the knot with it all now.

Hopefully a Garmin representative will be along with a suggestion, but I'd prefer that it's not the 'How V02 Max is calculated' article.

  • So my only solution has been to factory reset my Edge and sync back up to Garmin Connect. Bit of a poor solution but at least it works.

  • I'm using the same setup with Fenix 6 Pro and Edge 530 and I have the same problems. I think Physio True-up is a little bit confused with multiple devices and different activities like running (VO2max available), cycling with heart rate monitor but without power meter (VO2max not available) and indoor cycling with heart rate monitor and power meter (VO2max available).

  • I did the same although it wasn’t a factory reset but the other “lighter” reset you can do on your Edge (I forgot what’s it’s called). It worked and everything synced back together.

I am thinking this might have been triggered by the pause training fuction - I read somewhere else peopoe had issues after using that…

Anyway, I am glad it works now and I didn’t have to reset everything back with my preferences and settings.

  • I didn’t have the power meter initially, yet the training status was showing in the GC app. I assumed it was sort of calculated based on the HR (I always wear a chest an HR monitor). Obvs vo2 max wasn’t available for cycling but that wasn’t an issue. I was more interested and the training status and recovery times and wven withou pm it was working.
try a soft reset and see it works!

  • It is very important that you let the Edge sync before each ride to get the same values as the Fenix 6.
