Want heart rate, not power, on workout screen

I am training for a metric century ride from my bike and purchased a training plan through a Training Peaks provider.  The plan is sync'ed to my Garmin 530, but when I start one of the workouts, the workout screen that shows on my Garmin is based on power, not heart rate.  I don't even have a power meter on my bike (yet), so it's no good to me.  I checked in Garmin Connect and I do have heart rate zones established and I have recently sync'ed my 530, so why can't I see a heart rate range (and current heart rate) on my workout screen?

Am hoping this is a solved problem and someone can just send me a link for instructions on how to set this up either on my device or Garmin Connect (or both).   Thanks!

  • The target is set in the workout. If whoever wrote the Training Peaks plan workout specified a power target then that is what the Edge is going to display.

You could replicate the workout in the workout builder Garmin Connect but set an HR target instead of a power target.
