Can’t this thing just record your track?

Got the Edge 530 for Christmas; it’s more complicated than the Garmin G1000. I’m not kidding, Download this app, plug it into your computer, wtf? Can’t you just have it record a track, then save it as a stored route without downloading and creating routes on a computer? If so, how? The instructions that come with the device tell you how to navigate but don’t go into detail about specifics. The internet is overflowing with information to a point where finding specifically what I want it to do is like finding a needle in a haystack. So I figure I’d come here and just ask. Today I thought I had it but the speed and distance wouldn’t change from zero even when the elevation changed while I rode. Then it chirped at me like every 7 seconds and a PLAY icon appeared on the screen every time it chirped. What the heck is that?

You have to start the recording by pressing the start button (bottom right) and press again at the end to stop the recording and save the ride. They do have feature bloat and are over complex to cater to multiple user markets with the one device, read the inadequate user manual, do some searches, ask questions here (or ring and pester garmin support) and in a few months you will be expert (at least enough) good luck.
