Power target change

Hi,

I use Edge 530 to control my Vortex, but i measure power with Assioma Duo. My problem is that if i have a workout interval for 5 minutes and 200 watts for example. beacuse of the Vortex is inaccurate the interval average canbe 195 or 200 too. On the Edge there is a lap average power field and i can adjust power target to make it close to the target 200 watts. And here comes my problem, if i got to change power target ( interval target is 200) it sometimes drop down to a previous and a so much lower target and it take too much time to push back from 140w to 200w.

So why i power target value is not the actual power targer value when i try to change it? After a few intervals it sometimes change to 200w, so i dont know what value Garmin is using, maybe the first interval, maybe the last interval target when i changed target.

Example workout.

5 min 100w

5 min 200 w ( i try to change target and it drops down to 100 w )

1 min 100 w

5min 200 w ( i try to change target and it drops down to 100 w )

5 min 100

It is a bug or is there any logic behind this?

  • I saw someone else mention this in another post recently. It sounds like it tends to go back to either the previous interval or the first interval whenever you go to adjust it. So it sounds like you're not alone, and I agree it's definitely not user friendly. I suggest contacting Garmin Support about it so maybe they will fix it.

  • Here is the problem: https://youtu.be/cgO7NJTx2wM

There are 2 drops during this interval because of this. And after this thta is not funny to push 1 minute at 330 or 350 watts, and afraid to lower target because it drops again to 120 watts.

Powermacth is a big request from Garmin I know, so at least I hope they will treat this is as a bug and they will fix this.

I contacted Garmin support and waiting for the reply.

  • Today it was worse, it dropped to 1 watt :) https://youtu.be/MrHEZ_NIE9Q

But from the second interval set it worked fine.

This a 12 minutes interval at 239 watt and i tried to change target watt 3 times.

Here is today cooldown. 143 target and when try to adjust it changes to 279w Grimacing

  • What did Garmin Support say?

  • L1 support opened a ticket for L2 and they investigate if it is a bug and they can reproduce. My friend tried with Edge 830 and had the same problem.

    L1 advices:

    - use Connect to make a workout - I answered they dont handle ftp % workouts so not so user friendly

    - use Tacx app to calibrate- I did but Vortex just guessing watts not measure like Assiomas

  • They dont want to understand this or confirm that this is a SW bug from their side:

"We think this sudden power target change is related to the 3rd party power meter, and we'd like to have you disable that power meter on the next ride. The intended use for your Tacx Vortex with your Edge 530 would be to pair the trainer as an "Indoor Trainer"."

So if anyone else has this problem please answer here, maybe they will take it a little more seriuos. Thanks.

  • I use only Vortex for my setup as Garmin said without Assiomas, so power source is from the Vortex. It is the same, i did 2 videos, 3 interval and target watts always 106 watt.

NOTES FOR GARMIN: I DONT HAVE TO CONFIRM 106 WATTS TO MAKE IT ACTUAL TARGET, I JUST PUSHED CONFIRM ON VIDEO TO SEE THE POWER LINES.

  • I paired Vortex as power source ( so without Assiomas paired ) and the it is the same:
Check the video please, Vortex produce 106 watts perfectly and then next interval is 160 watts, i wait until Vortex goes up to 160 watts, perfectly works then i go into Power target menu and it is 106 watts:
AND I WAIT PURPOSELY 20 SECONDS AFTER GO INTO POWER TARGET MENU AND I DONT PUSH ANY BUTTONS = SO PLEASE NOTICE THAT 106 WATTS TAKES ACTIVE IMMEDIATELY AS LOG INTO POWER TARGET MENU.
Then i go back and you can see the power curve, target watts always change to 106. Two problems here:
    - inaccurate power target in power target menu
    - power target takes active immediately as log into power target menu with that inaccurate target
