A new Beta software for the Edge 530 has been released. Full change log, instructions, and software for installing the beta can be found in the link below.

Edge 530: https://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=14953

Notes:

  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 9.20 to 9.22:

  • Changed gear battery data field to display percentage remaining if available, which affects Shimano Di2 single-battery systems.
  • Updated sensor low battery prompts to differentiate between low and critical status.
  • Fixed issue where distance could stop accumulating.
  • Fixed issue where text message sender names would display incorrectly.
  • Really? No fix for the sensor dropouts? Any chance to give back my Edge530 and get my money back?

  • "Changes made from version 9.20 to 9.22"

But what changed between 9.10 and 9.20 then? Or is it a typo?

  • Garmin just released the Edge 530 in April, 2019.  Please give them time to work out the bugs and get the software stable.

  • Don't ever expect a fix for the sensor dropouts.  This problem has existed for over 5 years that I'm aware of.  It was in my 520, is in the 530 and other devices.  My guess is this is a problem in the electronics, probably some issue in the radio circuitry.  Thus Garmin can't fix it on these devices.  That would take new electronics which will be in some future product.

Garmin has been unwilling to make any comment about this problem.  I'm guessing their support folks are trained to dance around the issue and effectively leave us to live with hit.

  • just released?... 2 years ago... this thing is almost EOL ;-)

  • The Edge 800 was released many years ago, probably about 2012 and it was discontinued with only about 4 updates and replaced with the next version of an edge without all its bugs being resolved. I vowed never to buy another Garmin Edge and finally last year relented and bought a 530 thinking, Garmin must have sorted its problems out by now, but alas, I found out that they have not. Straight away I found that the 530 has issues with time, speed and distance calcualtions, one of the same bugs in an 800.

So what makes you think they ever will sort out all the issues in a 530?

I'm even sure that I have seen somewhere in the forum that a much used quote from Garmin is, "It will be fixed in the next model"

  • the edge 1030 plus was relased end of 2020, it features the same chipset as 830/530 and firmware updates are rolled out at the same time for 1030plus,830 ,530 we will almost certain get updates for the 530 till the 1030 plus is eol. garmin will have more opportunities to fix and add all the bugs^^
