Sending track to device from smartphone by bluetooth

Hi,

I've tried to send a gpx file trom my smartphone to device by bluetooth. Just from internal memory folder using command "send by" and I've chosen bluetooth and destination - Garmin Edge (BT). Smartphone started sending but result was failure. Is it possible to send by this way a track?
I want to use my Garmin od multiday trip and I don't want to use gsm data (expensive roaming abroad), so I make course in mapy.cz app, export it to phone memory and then want to send to Garmin.
If there is no internet, Connect app is useless for this. Do you know any wireless solution to send gpx without connecting smartphone to internet?

  • This sounds interesting so I'm subscribing to the thread to see if there is a solution.  I'm not sure how to access the Garmin's internal file structure wirelessly.  But you need to drop the gpx file into the "New Files" directory on the Edge. Then the Edge will know what to do with it upon reboot.

  • To clarify - if the connect app would worked fully without access to internet (via wifi or gsm) there would be no question. But if I don't connect the phone to the internet, the connect app is useless.

Maybe my phone has a version of BT which is not fully compatible with device, but there is little chance for it. (Redmi Note  8 Pro).
Eventually I can send the track by USB OTG Cable from mass storage of phone to device (just to the New Files directory), but would be nice not to use the cables. ;)

  • One more hint. If you could emulate another Garmin device on the phone, maybe it could be possible to do the task like in that case:

Transferring Files to Another Edge Device

You can transfer courses, segments, and workouts wirelessly from one compatible Edge® device to another using Bluetooth® technology.

    1. Turn on both Edge devices, and bring them within range (3 m) of each other.
    2. From the device that contains the files, select Menu > Settings > Connected Features > Device Transfers > Share Files.
NOTE: The Device Transfers menu may be in a different location for other Edge devices.
    3. Select a file type to share.
    4. Select one or more files to transfer.
    5. From the device that receives the files, select Menu > Settings > Connected Features > Device Transfers.
    6. Select a nearby connection.
    7. Select one or more files to receive.

A message appears on both devices after the file transfer is complete.

  • I have not tried this app, but I searched the Connect IQ store for "file transfer" and this one looks promising.  Looks like you also need to install a companion app on your phone to make the transfer?

  • This one works for sure:

You must install companion app "Gexporter" on your smartphone as well, open both apps and you'll be able to send any .gpx files stored in "download" folder of your smartphone.

  • My app/widget supports the GExporter Android app (and does a bunch more too).

  • Unfortunately I didn't find any reliable way to transfer GPX files wirelessly without internet connection. Best option that I came up with is to use GExporter widget/android app (thanks dpawlyk!) . Still though it requires installed Connect IQ SDK + internet connection.
So, I ended with an OTG cable. I wish Garmin added some way to manage folders OR transfer GPX files without internet connection as in places where I ride there frequently even no cellphone signal available.

  • Thanks for your link. I've installed that widget on the Edge 530 + GExporter on my phone and... I don't know what I'm doing wrong?

I go to folder with gpx files in phone - choose one file - open with... choose gpx/fit exporter (GExporter) than the gexporter opens with such text below options: "serving from: data/user/0/org.surfsite.gexporter/cache/(file name)

Then I go to the device, open grouteloader, choose option: "gexporter/android [1] 1227.0.7.1:22222 and the screen says: "Access failed, Conn failed (0)".

    Where is my fault?

The app and widget seems to work ok, because the option of sending location to phone is working.

  • It should be "gexporter/android [1] 127.0.0.1:22222"

Are you saying GImporter IQ app/widget works.

Do you have Garmin Connect running on your phone?

Is the Edge paired to the phone?

My app/widget works the same way as GImporter IQ.

I tried it on my 1030+ and it worked.
