Di2 Gear Combo Not Showing

I'm having a problem with my Garmin 530 not showing the gear combo from my Di2.  The field just displays "0-0".  Not sure if this was a recent software patch or if this is any type of known issue?  It's odd because all the rest of my Gear data fields from Di2 seem to be working.  It even shows the correct gear in the rear and front fields, but the combo field just displays 0-0.  I've reset my Garmin and re-added the sensor and installed the latest firmware on all my Di2 components but still nothing.  Oddly this happened at the same time as my battery field stopped showing a percentage and just shows a gear graphic with a battery bar below it which makes me think this might be some new software update.  Another post on this forum was talking about that happening for the Gear Battery field and seems like maybe that was an intentional software update to support multi battery shifters.

I guess in short, is anyone else having this issue / know why it happens and is there any fix to it??

Much appreciate any help!

  • I can't speak for the Garmin built-in data field and if it started failing after the latest updated that neutered the battery indicator as I use the Connect IQ data field named "Di2 Gears".  It provides a better gear display as it tells you which gear numerically instead of the number of teeth on the cog you are in.  I personally prefer that.  Try downloading Di2 Gears and see if you get a gear display in that data field.  If you do, then you know it is a failure in the Garmin built-in data field.

  • Two things to check.

Under the sensor are the front and rear gears set to use automatic or not?

If automatic is off then you should be able to either select one of the gear presets or manually set your own gear sizes.

If automatic is on then teh gear size is coming from the Di2 system and that needs to be set-up using the Shimano e-tube project app.

  • Gave that a try and looks like it worked.  That does seem to be a nicer field to use too.  Thanks for the tip!
