Is Public Beta 9.10 the same as the final 9.10?

Is it the same firmware or should I upgrade from beta to final?

  • Yes, it's the same. If it was different, it would be a different number.

(It would be hard to manage things in software development if one used the same numbers for different things. It would be all sorts of awful.)

Here's more support (from the 1030+) that it's the same:

That is why I would never give beta's the same version number as final versions...

    Anyway thanks for the clarification

  • The version released as beta is the final version.

"Beta" indicates how something is released (not what is released).

The few people who care about the beta releases shouldn't be having a problem with the number being the same.

If they change the number, it would be different version that would have to go through some sort of testing.

And people would wonder what the difference is!

  • beta / final etc are indicatioins of the 'quality' of the code, i.e. how many bugs,  whereas the number indicates the 'features' ( and bug-fixes rolled over from the previous 'final' release software will always have bugs) , so I would always get the "final" release as this is better quality than beta. Personally I would not bother with any beta releases unless you are desperate for a new feature that they have added, and are happy to do garmins jobs for them ( testing buggy SW) .

  • The 9.10 beta and the 9.10 release is exactly the same.  If they were different, the numbers would be different. That’s standard practice in software development.

And you are kind of wrong about betas anyway.
