It also be a bad cable or a damaged pin in the USB port. Try using a different cable and also inspect the USB on the Edge to see if ant of the pins are damaged.
As above more likely physical damage to the interface pins / cable or something internal that would cause sudden loss of charging. While the battery will decline in capacity over time this is a slow process and should not really be evident in an at most 30 month old device?
