What are these files on the 530

Whilst doing a clear out of my history files and courses etc, I came across these files and do not know what they are and seems odd that so many were created all in one go and don't know if its safe to delete them.

Its even odder that despite me doing a ride on the 24/10/21, I finished it about an hour before they was created, so therefore it must have happened whilst connected to Garmin Express

  • I'd make a backup first and then delete those files. Restart the device and see if everything is normal, which I expect to be.

Beware however that actions like this always have some risk...

  • Which folder are they in?  They could well be things being synced from Express such as any segments you have on your device (if they are they will be in the NewFiles folder and will disappear once the unit has started up after being synced).

  • They appear in the folders Garmin\ metrics and Garmin\debugging\backup. I do not use segments so in theory, Express should not be putting them onto the 530.

The ones in the "Metrics" probably are just a record of the ride that I have done probably as i seems to record about 1 to 5 files every ride.

  • On my Edge Explore,

The "Metrics" folder is normally empty - never seen any file there
    The folder ..\Garmin\Debugging\Backup contains files:
    - CyclingDefault.fit
    - Locations.fit
    - Records.fit
    - Settins.fit
    - Totals.fit
    - Weight.fit

Time / date of these files is from the first power-on after new from factory.

The 530 is a more versatile device, so there will be differences. But I cannot imagine all the files you mention belong there.
Again, delete them (see above), or take the plunge to reset your 530 to factory defaults (losing your personal files and settings).
You could follow the instructions from Garmin how to backup & restore settings:
