In my opinion the smaller trails disappear way to early when zooming out. I understand many trails on a zoomed out map could be annoying too. But often I find myself trying to navigate spontaneously using the map overview and the scale to scroll through small trails is just unbareable.

If you go in "map settings/visibility" of your active profile you should be able to have your map more or less detailed, depending of zoom.
