After many years of faithful service with my Edge 800, I took the plunge and bought an Edge 530 and so far, I'm not impressed.
One of the big problems is the "Time Ahead" in the Virtual Partner which I use a lot, when following a course it does not give a correct time, it has a bug.
I created a course in Garmin Mapsource which I have used faultlessly for years with the 800. On riding the course, I find that I can be only 300+ foot ahead of myself, but timewise 17 minutes ahead, that is not right, I could walk faster than that to cover 300+ foot. I slowed down, the VP overtook me and the "Time Ahead" dropped to 16+ minutes just at the point of overtake and at the point the VP overtook me, the data field changed to red and I was -16 minutes behind the moment it overtook me.
The following day, I created a new course on the 530 from the ridden one, Exactly the same happened when I slowed down to let the VP overtake. I went from 6+ minutes ahead to -6 minutes behind in an instant and the VP is only about 30+ foot in front according to the data field for distance ahead.
Two more times I tried with courses created from rides I had ridden, it did the same. Useless.
But, if I'm not following a course it works perfect.
Software version 8.2
Is it possible to reinstall the software to ensure I did not get a corrupt installation when it updated? With my 800, I found it simple to reinstall the software, but I cannot see the option anywhere for the 530
What is the point of the colours for the activity profiles, all it does is make the white text hard to read that gets overlaid. My first attempt was light blue, white text hardly stands out and same with all the other colours, about the only usable one is the dark blue and it is nowhere near perfect and can be hard to read. Why not have an option of no colour or white, even black would be better than those colours.
Should the 530 power up when you disconnect the cable. Every time I disconnect from my PC because I have been charging it or data transfer, the 530 powers up. My 800 would do it on very rare occasions and when it did, and I did not notice it would cause me problems later when I went to ride next day and found the battery flat. I can see me having the same problem with the 530.
