No route recorded, but total distance is correct

I use my Garmin 530 for my daily commute to work. When I arrive at work I always pause the ride and turn the device off (sleep mode). For my way back home I turn the device on and hit the start button again. This always works fine until yesterday. The ride in the morning was recorded but the way back home was not recorded as a route on the map. Strangely the distance is correct. It's 19 km one way, and in Garmin Connect it shows 38 km total, but only the morning ride is showed on the map. I checked the map on the device itself and shows the same (half) route.

I ride with a combined speed/cadence sensor connected to the Garmin (ANT+). The GPS is turned on in the chosen activity profile (just checked). For the ride back home the battery had about 20% left in it. When I arrived home it was at 17%.

I appreciate any suggestions...

  • For the second time now with firmware 8.20 only the first 500meters or so of the route has been recorded. Then it's as if the GPS signal was permanently lost. Can't recall any notification on the screen about lost GPS signal during the ride. That's quite audible normally when I have the device turned on indoors.

As I also have a speed sensor, the distance and speed is still nearly correct. I use GPS+GLONASS and haven't had any problems prior to 8.20. Have used the 530 since its release. As I don't tend to watch the map screen I only notice this after having uploaded the ride.

  • Strangely enough, today, looking at the map, a large part of my cycle was missing but it showed-up on Strava in spite of not using the Strava app on my phone.  Information is indeed scant and I’d like to know what happened.  Tracker was fully charged.  All other rides were correct
