How do I update a map on my Edge 530

I downloaded a map from Ridewithgps.com and copied it over to my 530. Let's called this Map A. I then go back and edit Map A and renamed it Map B and copied it over to my 530. I can see the Map B in the Garmin folder under Courses. However when I disconnect my Edge from my PC and turn it back on I see the old course Map A. I tried deleting Map A and uploading Map B again but I still see Map A.

  • To be clear what you call MAP A & B are really Courses / Routes not "Maps". The Maps are installed at the "factory" on your Garmin in the Garmin Directory and have .IMG extensions, there are probably 3, 4 or 5 or more of them. Garmin Connect / Express will update the Maps each year.

The "Courses" you have created in RWGPS should be exported as .FIT / .TCX or .GPX files depending on what you selected, they are essentially the same in that they define a Course / Route by having lots (thousands) of positions but the different formats have different extensions to the basic position information.

I assume you have then copied your "Maps" (Courses / Routes) into the Garmin NEWFILES directory (not the Courses directory) and when you restart the Garmin (or disconnect it from the PC) it converts whatever it finds in the NewFiles directory and moves the result to the Courses Directory. If you copied them to the Courses directory then they will not work as Courses

The Name of the Courses has to be unique within the first 15 characters else they effectually overwrite  earlier ones of the "same" name. The name though is a bit tricky as it is actually internal to the Course / Route file, it might be the same as the name you give in RWGPS but might also be different (some special characters are not permitted)
