Training Status with Fenix 5x and 530

So I've been training with a Wahoo and Fenix 5x.  I liked recroding my rides with the Fenix 5X in addition to my wahoo for training status Garmin gives.  So I naturally moved to Edge 530, thinking I'll get the status straight away on the Edge 530, and not have to record on Fenix.  Which I do...great!  However in the Garmin Connect app, I have TWO STATUS's, one for Fenix and one for 530.  If they are all on the same system shouldn't I only have one status?  Shouldn't Garmin be tracking me from any of these devices, walk and run on Fenix, maybe some swimming...those are nice....then bike on the edge 530....my status should be cumulative not device specific.....

What am I missing? Is this not how it works?

  • Turn on Physio True Up for both devices, this is exactly what that feature is for. And make sure you sync your device with Garmin Connect before an activity, so that each device is starting from a common starting point.

Note that the 5X and 530 are from a slightly different generation of performance metrics. Activities recorded on the 5X won't give you Training Load focus.

  • So I do have Physio True turned on, on both devices.  I am getting Training Status on both devices...but they are different.  One says unproductive with one LOAD and the other is maintaining with a much higher load.  As I mentioned I just got the 530 recently so it doesn't have as much data, but crazy it's actually a higher load...lol.

This is one of the MAIN things I wanted the 530 for, is to be on the same page so to speak.  I have other options I'm looking at with a return policy if I need.  Crazy to think these wouldn't somehow be recording the activity on each individual device, sending data to your licensed algorithms and then updating my cloud account which both devices are connected to.

If Fenix calculates differently, fine, I will be doing different activities on that devices...I don't care/want to record same activity on both devices and expect same result...no need for that.

Thanks for any clarification you can give...looking forward to figuring this out.

  • The older generation Fenix will not match Edge 530 statistics. Plus you will be missing some of information recorded on Edge from the Connect application or the website. Serious compatibility issue with Garmin devices and Garmin not even trying to fix it.

  • Yep sounds like Garmin has some short comings here.  I get it, lot's of moving parts.  But a 5X and 530 should be similar time frames no?  I'm new to Garmin and honestly...not totally in love yet.  I was actually better off, just using watch as GARMIN's activity, bike, swim walk etc...  And using my "other" cycling computer for that tracking.  My Watch would give me consistent feedback when I DOUBLE tracked for Garmin's sake my activity's on the bike.  Now instead of things being more SEAMLESS TOGETHER in one system, it's gotten worse.

May look deeper into that "other device" that's being flooded in the market, trying to grab market share....they are trying hard for my business...and that's what I want from a company!  I'd be buying into WHAT IT COULD be not what it is now...but that's a positive in some ways.

  • My understanding is that Fenix 6 is at par with Edge 530. Supposedly the older Fenix 5 or Forerunner 935 become the primary device, which is overriding newer features of Edge 530. Total oversight and mess on Garmin side; or, on purpose neglect by Garmin of older devices to force us to buy newer devices.

  • I was just going to come in and see if there was at least a way to make my 530 the primary...maybe this isn't possible?

  • I couldn't find the way to achieve it. Maybe you will have more luck.
