Will editing ride data affect the validity of the results on a segment for example

I recently completed a sportive ride and the heart rate monitor didnt pick up any of the ride correctly, so i was wondering if i simply edit the ride to add estimated correct values, will it make the segments, or the ride as a whole, invalid or with they be unaffected. Thanks.
