How can I purchase a cycle map download of Europe for my 530 from Canada

I go on Garmin's web page prepared to spend 30 bucks for the Europe map download and the e-commerce site tells me that my postal code is not valid and the transaction cannot proceed. That is of course because the site wants a US postal code. I start on the Garmin Canadian web portal, my address is clearly Canadian, I select Canada for my shipping country. Are the people at Garmin really this stupid? This is forcing me to get the free download of web. How is it possible that people doing this for free are so much better at it that the people at Garmin. What a bunch of clowns.

Or am I doing something wrong?

You can get free maps.

This lets you download just the region you need. You also won't have to pay for updates.

Try a small region to learn how to do it.

Thanks, I know all about the free stuff but I was prepared to support Garmin. Weird that their e-commerce is so third rate.

I'm assuming you are planning a trip that covers a small part of Europe.

If that's the case, using the free stuff is the better choice.

You get can get current maps (2 weeks old). (I've updated OSM before trips.)
You don't have to pay for updates in the future (maps you buy from Garmin don't include updates).
You can get just the region you need, which saves time and space (rather than needing to download maps for an entire continent).

The issue, basically, is that it doesn't make much sense for Garmin to spend lots of effort to compete against free.

Garmin provides world-wide maps (with updates) for the 1030+. So, Garmin is moving towards making this easier (with newer models).

With my Australian Edge 830 I also have the ability to download/install Garmin's European maps via Garmin Express. I think all devices come preinstalled with maps for the local region and allow the installation of one more. I suspect American models also offer Euro maps for free...
