Audio volume workaround for Edge 5xx/8xx

Here's a link to a project in Instructables for 3D printing a object that is used to reflect the sound from the Garmin head unit.

It gives ~5db (or 300%) increase in the audio back to the rider. The picture below shows it clipped into the under side mount without the head unit attached.

  • My work buddy has printed one for me today and it is on its way.  I’ll let you know how it goes…

  • Stage one complete - I have the printed item (thanks Jay!) and it fits the quarter turn mount perfectly and does not look too obtrusive.  Now i need to try it on a ride.   I'm told it used approx. £0.5 of filament to print.

  • Sounds about right, depending on the infill percentage. I used 30% and the Cura slicer says 6.5 meters of filament. So that's a small percentage of a typical 1000m roll (~$15-$20 US/roll).

  • Hi - I took my first ride last night with this installed and can definitely say that it makes a big difference.  At average riding speeds (for me ~15mph) the alerts from the unit are much more noticeable to my ears and I already found myself relying less on keeping an eye on the edge   In downhill sections the wind noise still obscures the beeps but that is to be expected.   I would still prefer the Connect app to relay the alerts to my (bone conducting) headphones as they already do with navigation and other prompts but as there is no sign of Garmin doing so this is a great work around.
