Mountain Bike Mount Bands?

Got the Edge 530 MTB Mount Kit, and tacked on my speed sensor, and a cadence sensor 2.  While trying to install the nifty mountain bike mount, I found that the bands supplied by Garmin do NOT fit my GT Timberline 2013 model 2.0 XL Frame.  Attaching the soft grips within the mount, it's either 'too big' with space in between, or when I put in both bands at the same time, it's just over what can fit within the mount.  Has anybody else experienced this?  What can I do to get this mount on my bike?  Am I seriously going to have to buy a whole new set of mountain bike handlebars just to get the MTB mount on?  I feel like I wasted all my money on a kit that DOESN'T provide an option for my bike.  The flat 'standard mounts' don't fit my stem area either, as I have a stem riser (gets in the way of the Edge 530), due to my unusual height issue of having a tall/long torso.

How can I fix this?  Does Garmin make bands to support other sizes of handlebars???

  • The mount is supposed to be installed close to the stem, not near the grips, the bar diameter at the grips tapers down to 22mm.

The MTB mount fits all common handlebar diameters, 25.4mm,  31.8mm, and 35mm bars. Have you tried the information here: Installing the MTB Mount this link is for the 830, but both the 530 and 830 use the same bracket.

If your bar is smaller in diameter than 25.4mm near the stem, then I suggest that you wrap a few turns of electrical (vinyl) tape or self-sealing silicone tape around the bar and then use only the thickest inner band.
