TBT from Komoot Route

I've had this again on a couple more routes and not always from komoot. Distance to turn and distance to destination do not countdown until that first turn is reached. But that first turn is actually the 20th turn or whatever, so im relying on the map view until then. I can still get about but increasingly annoying. I think if i had this when the unit was new i would have returned it as faulty. Sadly its 1y 2m old.

I'm guessing that the EU law warranty protection of 2 years for electronic devices no longer applies to the UK?

Are you talking about "turn guidance" (the big white arrows)?

"Turn guidance" is calculated/determined on the device. It doesn't matter where the track comes from.

The "distance to destination" is based on the cumulative distance in the file (track) you are loading. If the device figures you are off course, it won't update this value.

Your issues seem unusual to me. I haven't seen those issues (with the 1030/1030+) and there doesn't seem to be many people complaining about the same on any model.

Thanks. Exactly as you point out so must be a unit thing. The course appears on the map screen so it’s definitely there. Someone else has noted that their first couple of turns don’t always work. 

Maybe time for a full reset to factory settings and start again. I’m sure that’s what Garmin would advise as a first step.

If you are talking about "turn guidance" (the big white arrows), you can see the list of turns (that the unit calculates) by tapping on the text at the top of the map.

Keep in mind that the track has to follow the roads on the installed map fairly closely for the "turn guidance" to work.

Try this: in the web version of GC open a route downloaded from Komoot, then ..., then make a copy (or something like that, I have not English language installed). Garmin recounts a route with its own map, after that you can rename the copied route and upload it to the Edge. That worked for me.

There is no map in a course (in the file that gets downloaded to the device). It's just a series of track points.

It's possible people are talking about "course points". These show-up as popups with a black background. These are embedded in the course file (if it's a FIT or TXC file).

"Course points" are separate from "turn guidance" (the big white arrows).

The UK actually has slightly better consumer protection laws than the default EU ones.  That is why it never implemented the EU ones as its own were perfectly good.  Also, remember warranties don't override your entitlements under law you have when buying things.

If you want to send the unit back to the seller you will have to contact them and see if they agree to that course of action. 

Within the first 6 months it is assumed any fault was there from purchase. After 6 months to show a fault was there from purchase an engineers report finding that would be required.

The buyer has the expectation that the product should last a reasonable amount of time before failure. Garmin units should be expected to last longer than 13 months. Contact Garmin support if your unit has issues.

Read up on the Consumer Rights Act. 

I repeated a course / route that had this no TBT issue and didn't have the same issue. Since the first time i have done 3 things:

1. Reset unit to factory settings

2. Updated to FW 8.10

3. Went into GC, duplicated the course that was synched from komoot, changed the pace / speed number and did a save as (course itself not changed)

The course worked as it should, giving TBT directions from the go. Not exactly sure which action solved it, although my guess would be action 3.
