Ignore 8.10 Install prompt?

Sounds like lots of folks having problems with v8.0/8.10 - I keep getting prompts on startup to upgrade but I want to remain on 7.10 which is working well. Am I stuck with this prompt until 8.20 is released?

You can delete the GUPDATE.GCD file from the units GARMIN directory and somewhere in Garmin Connect/Express is a switch for stopping Auto Downloads.

This is not a solution. Garmin Express/Garmin Connect will download the software again. I wrote how to block the new software prompt - just search

Not sure if it still works but you could try to delete the file and then create an EMPTY file with the same name.

To follow up I assume to reverse this, let’s say when a “stable” future fw is released I can just delete the empty GUPDATE.GCD and let GC/GE push a new update as normal?

works for me, reverted back to 7,10 more than a week ago, a number of activity uploads etc since but it has not auto downloaded the update again

Well there is a hole in the scheme, after more than a week with the "Auto Download" disabled in Garmin Connect/Express/App I did a connection with just WiFi and this does not seem to respect the setting and it downloaded the 8.10 update again, not a problem, I said "remind me" and did the dummy GUPDATE.GCD in the Garmin directory, stated without offering the update.
