Speed Sensor works on 520 and won't on 530

I require speed from the rear hub when I warm up for time trial stages. It's never easy to switch this over on my 520; but, it does work. I discovered that you receive one or two blips of speed with the 530, otherwise it's a total fail. I purchased a new dual-band speed sensor and it too was a fail. I'm at a loss to explain why the sensor works on the older model 520 and the 530 lacks the sophistication to pick it up. Any thoughts as to a possible resolution?

  • I have the speed sensor on front hub and give the front wheel a spin or three to get it to wake up and connect with my 530 which is out front mount in middle of handle bars. You can see the green light on the sensor flash when it wakes up. Do you have to put yours on the rear, isn't the front the same as the wheels spin at same speed when riding? Front wheel hub is probably closer to your 530. I use ANT+ Garmin speed sensor.

  • Since the front wheel is stationary while I'm on the trainer warming up, it's not a viable option.

  • Delete the pairing on the 530, then add it again. Make sure you pair it over ANT+ rather than Bluetooth (Bluetooth only connects to one head unit at a time) - the ANT+ connection should probably show up just as a number, rather than a name.

Also, the initial autocalibration requires GPS speed to calibrate the wheel circumference after the initial pairing, so this may not work if you are using a trainer for the initial calibration. (You could also set the wheel circumference manually if you wish. This should be a one-off - once calibrated correctly, you should be able to use the trainer just fine.
