intensity tracker from Garmin edge 530

How can I get my intensity tracked when using the edge 530 outside? I only seem to be able to track using my venu 2 but I don’t use this for my cycling training

  • I get Intensity Minutes just from wearing my watch when cycling. You don't actually have to record your cycling on the watch, just wear it passively, and it will pick up the increase in HR.

  • Do you find the watch accurate enough though when wearing passively?

As my Fenix 6x Pro is in power saving mode when worn passively, it doesn’t actually detect higher heart rates and is usually very wrong, so now I have to record an activity on both devices (and then delete one of them) to record accurate IM on the Fenix.

  • You’ll need to ensure you connect a HR monitor too. Either a chest strap or if your watch allows it broadcast the hr from the watch to the 530.

Intensity minutes is a very simple measure (it's either gentle or intense), and the wrist sensor doesn't have to be highly accurate to differentiate between these. I normally use a chest strap connected to my Edge, and leave the watch to do it's thing without recording. The intensity minutes nearly always matches up with double the length of the ride.
